Course Content
The explanation of migration processes, the main migration policies existing in some European states, migrants in the Italian labor market, and social conflicts originating from the relationships between local and foreign population; irregular immigration, trafficking in human beings and exploitation of migrants in the labor and sex markets.

Learning Objectives
Understanding the main elements concerning the contemporary migrations and relationships between populations belonging to different cultures. Projecting patterns of social mediation devoted of avoiding social conflicts between local and foreign population. Providing students with methodological knowledge in order to improve critical attitudes and technical skills enabling students to design and conduct researches in the migration topics.

The first exam in June 2020 will be oral and on line. If some changes happen in the coming months enabling us to use the University buildings, exams could be oral with students.
Type of Assessment
Oral examination, from 2 to 5 questions on the main first boolk and other two books of the program. The oral exam lasts around 20 to 30 minutes. Questions on the first main book will have more importance than questions on the other books: 30% for the main book and 20% for the other books.
Course program
Analyzing theories (macro, meso and micro) concerning the explanation of migration processes; analyzing in depth migration policies adopted by some European countries on the bases of three models: assimilation, cultural pluralism, and multiculturalism. In addition, taking into consideration the presence of migrants in the Italian labor market related to the economic globalization process. Analyzing in depth some problematic issues such as the smuggling of migrants, trafficking in human beings, and the ambiguous relationships between immigration and criminality.
