BACKGROUND – SUSTANIBALITY, CIRCULAR ECONOMY, INNOVATION: Integrated approach to sustainability. Circular Economy. International trade, customs controls and frauds. Raw materials, commodities and life cycle.
SUPPLY CHAINS, MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS AND CERTIFICATIONS. Impacts on air, water, soil. Renewable energy. Quality management systems. Environmental certifications and labels. Corporate social responsibility. Supply chains and traceability.
Knowledge and understanding: Acquisition of basic knowledge on sustainability, circular economy, international trade and customs, commodities and life cycle, environmental impacts of production on air, water, soil and characteristics of the main renewable energy sources. Knowledge of management systems and their application to production chains. Tools for understanding the quality of raw materials and resources, also in relation with social and ecological impacts along with all phases of the supply chain. Ability to understand the development-production-commodity interaction at the local level.
Applying knowledge and understanding: Assumption of the mentality of “commodity scientist” in order to understand problems, formulate and test sustainable and effective solutions, with an integrated and circular economy approach. To be able to design and implement, in contexts of international cooperation, adequate actions for the sustainability of the supply chains and production processes.

Type of Assessment
1) NON-ATTENDING STUDENTS AND NO PROJECT WORK: ORAL EXAM
The oral exam is based on the lesson materials (power point + audio / video + handouts). The oral exam will take place in the permitted manner (distance or in presence) on the date of the session.
2) ATTENDING STUDENTS WHO PARTICIPATE IN THE PROJECT WORK: The student will study in deep an assigned production chain highlighting the production context, procedures, export flows, sustainability. The project work must be carried out in successive steps, gradually delivering intermediate outcomes according the proposed deadlines. This option envisages a continuous commitment for the student over the semester and will end with the complete project work. Detailed instructions and materials are available on moodle.
