Course program
The origins of environmental transformation processes lie far back in time. If the British Industrial Revolution made the changes in the environment faster and more evident, such as the intense use of fossil fuels, there is no doubt that the ecosystem changes have undergone a strong acceleration, especially during the last century. In fact, during the twentieth century, demographic expansion, industrialization processes, strong urbanization, the availability and use of significant amounts of energy, the significant growth in mass consumption have led to major changes in the relationship nature-society. During the course the above-mentioned drivers of change will be analyzed with particular regard to the Italian context to show students what it means to interpret the relationship between environment, city and industry in a historical perspective.
