After an introductive part aimed to synthesize the main streams of
economic paradigms (the classics and the neo-classics), the course
presents some significant scientific contributions by the Italian
economists in the specific field of the economic policy, from the
Unification of Italy in 1861 up to now.

Obiettivi Formativi
Based on the economic proposal and suggestions promoted by the Italian
economists since 1861 up to now with the final aim to influence the
policy-making, the course focuses on the complex and circular
relationship among the theoretical economic knowledge, the consequent
economic culture, and its final effects on the political power.
Prerequisiti
The knowledge of the political economy as well as economic policy
principles.
Metodi Didattici
Traditional-type lectures with employment of slides.

Systematic references to the parallel evolution of the international
economic thought will be offered.
Modalità di verifica apprendimento
The final examination will be written with three open questions to be answered
in extended form.
Programma del corso
The fisrt (introductive) part of the course presents a summary of the main
economic theories, from the ones of the classical political economy to the
successive neoclassical thought. The second and more extended part of
the course deals with a specific segment of the history of economic
thought, namely the Italian one, from the Unification in 1861 up to now.
Among others, economists such as Maffeo Pantaleoni, Vilfredo Pareto,
Antonio De Viti De Marco, Luigi Einaudi etc. up to some of the leading
Italian economists debating on the causes of the current Great Recession
and on the ways to escape from, are presented and discussed.
