Learning Objectives
At the end of the course, the student will be able to understand the main demographic and social problems of contemporary European societies.
COMPETENCES:
- Understanding demographic phenomena at the macro level and analysis of micro-mechanisms linking socio-economic factors and family behaviours at the individual level.
- Answering theory-driven socio-demographic research questions through secondary data analysis in Stata.
Prerequisites
Prerequisites: Some knowledge of statistics (regression models) and demography are welcomed. Basic knowledge of the statistical software Stata are highly recommended.

Face-to-face lectures and lab sessions.

Given the hands-on approach of the course, students are strongly encouraged to regularly attend the lessons.
Type of Assessment
ATTENDING students: written and oral exam.
The oral exam is composed by three questions on the course programme and accounts for 2/3 of the final mark.
Students will have to produce a short paper which, starting from a research question based on the topics of the course, includes some statistical elaborations and their substantive interpretation. Such written part of the exam accounts for 1/3 of the final mark.
NON-ATTENDING students: oral exam on all topics of the course. For more information, non-attending students should contact the lecturer.
